OWH03 for a sympathy card

Last night we found out that Jim's grandmother lost her youngest and last assembly the night before. She loves to receive hand crafted cards, or cards of any type, so I made this card this morning for her and it will go out in today's mail. She lives in North Carolina so I should get to her fairly quickly.

Based on OWH Sketch #3.

Supplies: Solid paper by Recollections. Printed paper from Graphic 45 (the floral paper is from A Ladies' Diary, I'm unsure which collection the stripe came from). The punch is from Stampin' Up. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up's Three Little Words stamp set. Stamped with Archival Jet Black.

This one's for the boys

Cards made with the younger guys in mind. As a mom of three boys, I know first hand that is it hard to find cards for my boys, so I try to make a lot of masculine and boy cards for OWH since I know they struggle as well in that category.

Wild About U! This mini monster is a little wild thing. The sentiment is cut from Cricut Create a Critter 2. The monster (called "Creepy") is from Cricut Mini Monsters (my youngest son, who's nickname is "Monster" helped with his color scheme). The heart is from Cricut Craft Room Basics.  The solid paper is from Recollections. The print paper is from Close to my Heart.

Miss you. This card was inspired by a few different things. The design idea is from the My Favorite Things sketch MFTWSC106. The colors are from the SpiltCoastStampers (SCS) weekly color challenge CC488. The "quilted" technique is from SCS Inspiration Challenge IC4550 (Country Curtains). The stamped and colored image is cut from the Sizzix Stitched Frame die. The mat is from Cricut's Elegant Edges. The embossing folder is Wire Fence by Darice (which serves as a nice quilt when flipped over). The sentiment is from Tim Holtz Simple Sayings. The image is from Stampin' Up's Seaside Sketches stamp set. I used Archival Jet Black ink to stamp the image and the sentiment. The image was colored using the following Tim Holtz markers: Peeled Paint, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Bundled Sage, Scattered Straw, Tattered Rose, Gathered Twigs, and Faded Jeans. I did not use a water color paper this time, but once finished I did use a wet paintbrush on the sky and the grass to blend them a little.

I listed my School Rules card on Esty; check it out here.

Free for all Friday at SpiltCoastStampers - F4A231

This weeks free for all Friday challenge at SplitCoastStampers is making your background paper using stamps.
Since none of my boys will have just one teacher this year, I am going to let them card sit in the card stash until someone needs it.

SCS F4A231. Paper by Recollections. Stamp set used is Close to My Heart School Rules. Apples stamped in Tim Holtz inks: Shabby Shutters, Fired Brick, Festive Berries, Barn Door, Peeled Paint, Mowed Lawn, Crushed Olive, and Bundled Sage. Stems and leaves stamped in Frayed Burlap. Pencil done with markers applied to the stamp instead of an inkpad. Markers used: Black Soot, Antique Linen, Wild Honey, Pumice Stone, and Worn Lipstick.Sentiment stamped in Archival Jet Black. Ribbon is inked with Chipped Sapphire and embossing with Recollections Clear Detail Embossing powder.

This was a great way to spend a power outage (the embossing was afterwards).

3 cards on Thursday

I have three cards to share today. One is from this morning and the other two are from earlier this week. The Any Hero card is from this morning, the beach card is from Monday, and the sunset card is from Tuesday.

Hero card is based on OWH sketch #103 and SCS challenge WT489 (Lots of Dots). Solid paper is from Recollections. Printed paper is from BoBunny Anthem Collection 6x6 pad. Hearts are a Stampin' Up punch. Embossing folder is Cuttlebug Swiss Dots. Stamp is Stampin Up Words of Courage and stamped with Archival Jet Black. This is my 10th Any Hero card with this paper pad and I still have a lot of paper left in it. I LOVE IT!

Beach card is SCS TLC491 (Scor a design), CAS 282 (at the beach), and F4A230 (bright colors). Solid paper is by Recollections. Ribbon is by Offray. Beach chair image is from Google Images and then altered in Microsoft Word. Scor design made on my Martha Stewart scorboard.

Sunset card is just playing around with the Stampin Up Seaside Sketches stamp set I stamped on some scrap papers at a crop. I colored the whole thing with Tim Holtz Distress Markers: Fired Brick, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Black Soot, Vintage Photo, Broken China. and Picked Raspberry. The sentiment is from Tim Holtz Simple Saying stamp set. Both stamps are stamped with Archival Jet Black. All of the paper is by Recollections.

I also stamped the father and son from this set and plan to work on it at a later time. The matching stamp set is Sketches and I used the one with the Adirondack chair and the stool with the book. Again, I will work on those at a later time. I'm looking forward to watercoloring all of the images I stamped. There is another coordinating stamp set that I just discovered online today called Summer by the Sea. I MUST own these sets! By the way, my birthday is in September **hint hint** :)

3 cards in one morning.

For some reason I woke up at 330 this morning after only 3 hours of sleep and was wide awake. So I took advantage of the peace and quiet of everybody else in the house sleeping and spend some time my craft room. Earlier this week I cut the I miss you sentiment from my Cricut using the chalkboard fonts cartridge. The letters welded together very nicely.I made an Any Hero Card using this last week's sketch. I also made a card for a little boy named Noah who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Its only 9 a.m. And I have been so productive so far and my kids aren't even awake yet. I hope my creativity continues throughout the day.

I Miss You. For OWH. Based on OWH Sketch #234. Supplies used: Solid paper by Recollections, flocked paper by Chatter Box. Sentiment welded together from Chalkboard Fonts Cricut Cartridge.

Freedom Any Hero Card. For OWH. Based on OWH Sketch #233. Solid paper by Recollections. Printed paper from BoBunny Anthem Collection 6x6 pad. Stamp from Cloud 9 Designs. Bling from Studio 18.

Get Well Soon Noah. Based on OWH Sketch #12. Paper is double sided cardstock by Little Yellow Bicycle. White paper by Recollections. Stamp from Lots of Bots stamp set by Stampin Up. Markers used are Tim Holtz Pumince Stone, Black Soot, and Broken China.

One design, four colors

In desperate need of Miss You cards for my OWH box, I used one design with four different color schemes. The printed papers are all 12x12, so I was able to make 6 of each color. I'm glad that I only made 4 sets since by the end I was struggling to get the last few finished since I was beginning to get bored with it.

From left to right: (All Tim Holtz Distress Inks) Stormy Sky, Dusty Concord (or Seedless Preserves, I can't remember), Picked Raspberry, and Chipped Sapphire. The stamp set used is Three Little Words by Stampin Up, the ribbon is random, the printed paper is from an unknown company, and the sketch is MFTWSC40 (the same sketch I used for my first sympathy card a couple of posts ago).

SCS sketch challenge 497

Inspired by SplitCoastStampers weekly sketch challenge #497.

Suppliers used:
Printed paper from Bo Bunny Anthem Collection 6 by 6 pad
Solid paper by Recollections
Bling by Want 2 Scrap

From composition book to journal

Instead of working on a personal blog I decided to make a journal to keep on my nightstand. Instead of going out and getting a frou frou one I decided to make my own. I browsed a friend's Altered Books and Art Journals Pinterest board and got a few bits of inspiration.

Supplies used:
Composition book
Mod podge
Black and Kraft Swirls paper by Canvas Corp
Cricut cut from Chalkboard Fonts
Crackle Accents
Curly Tree stencil by Plaid
Liquitex matte gel medium
Clover small glass beads by Art Glitter
Black lace by Wyla

A quick and easy project. The most time consuming part was waiting for everything to dry.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sadly, my very first sympathy card

A scrapbooking & card making friend of mine lost her father a little after midnight last night. They were very close and she spoke very highly of him. He passed away this morning from COPD after suffering with it for years.
We usually see each other on make and take Tuesdays, Friday night crops, and other crafting events. I haven't been attending many Friday night crops or make and take Tuesdays lately due to not feeling well, so I'm mailing this out today in case I don't get to see her anytime soon.

Supplies used:
Three little words by Stampin Up
Tim Holtz Aged Mahagony ink
unknown printed paper
Recollections solid paper
Unknown chocolate brown satin ribbon

MMTPT311 - Teapot Tuesday over at SCS using OWH185

Changing gears

So, my poor little sewing machine has seen little to no love for months. My creative mojo seems to have wandered over to a different medium: cardstock. As I've mentioned before, I make cards for Operation Write Home, and now I am the Coordinator of my local group, Low Country OWH, based in Summerville, SC. So, not only have a switched mojo gears, I have also thrown and immersed myself in my new title. I apologize for my blog absence but I wanted to make sure I changed up and updated the blog before posting my card creations. Just during these past two weeks I've been making a least one card each day. For those of you that follow my page on Facebook will notice the absence there as well. I will be changing it to reflect both sewing and paper crafting soon. My Pinterest boards and YouTube channel have been the most updated, so be sure to check those out while the website, blog, and Facebook page undergo some superficial changes. I plan to update the blog at least three times a week and feature a card of the day. Not only will I show a picture of the card, I will also give a supply list and a general idea of how I made it. Some days I post tutorials on YouTube, so I will make to link those in as well. Sew, happy stamping and crafting! -Jenifer
